DICHROMACY

Responsibilities: Leading a 17 person team of programmers, artists, audio engineers and designers. Making sure hours were logged, assets were logged and created on time, and doing any administration the school wanted so that the team can spend their time on developing a game.
Skills/Software used: Excel for spreadsheets. Word for documentation. Whiteboards and a lot of markers for planning, designing and developing a game within ~27 days.
Created content
: 3 levels, a co-op mode, multiple enemies, a scoring system and a working game on the PS3.
Notable accomplishments
  • Made and worked with administration and planning for 'larger' teams
  • Made a game that ran on both PC and PS3
  • Successfully coped with old team members leaving and new team members joining
  • Finished a year long part-time project with a finished game that ran on new hardware, using new software with unique new gameplay

Learning points
  • Did not anticipate a new engine being this difficult to work with
  • Learned not to overvalue good programmers. They really help, but they are not magic
  • Did not anticipate the morale problems a big team can have
  • Learned how longer term games need to scope accordingly for quality and quantity
  • Learned that all team members need to understand the state of the project, but to inform them with brevity.
  • Documentation can be both an asset and an administrative pit for the team
